Welcome
In reading this, you may be making your first connection with The Trafalgar School at Downton. I would like to welcome you, and I feel confident that you will like what we have to offer. We are a forward-thinking, innovative school devoted to best possible academic and personal success for every student. That success for each child is due to excellent teaching, effective and focused support and guidance, and a whole-school ethos of excellent relationships, good humour, inspiration and joy - all of which is focused on learning.
We know each student very well - as a learner and as a person. Each young person is an individual and all of our students are as special as each other. We help students grow to be independent - developing leadership skills at every opportunity, yet we also ensure they know how to be team-players. From the outset - actually while still in primary school - students are made to feel that they belong to us at Trafalgar. That belonging is a fundamental part of self-esteem which is itself a pre-requisite for best learning.
Our examination results have improved significantly in recent years for all students, both in the range of qualifications taken and the quality and quantity of the grades achieved. We continually strive in all we do to maximise the opportunities for success. To inspire, support and complement that improvement we have achieved Investors in People, Financial Standards in Schools, Sportsmark Gold, Artsmark Gold, International Schools Award, ICT Mark and the Healthy Schools Award. We also have Specialist School status in Performing and Visual Arts.
Our good relationships with all in our community help to support our students' learning, their personal development and their career needs. This relationship contributes to an understanding of young people and their social and learning needs, and is a further source of inspiration to our students.
We are developing as an "Extended School" with our facilities enhanced in school time for the benefit of our students' education - such as in our young person's health facility - and are increasingly available to local people for their learning and other use out of school hours.
I frequently marvel at my good fortune in securing the headship of this unique and exceptional school. The opportunities it will provide for your child will be second to none. Come and see for yourselves all we have to offer - delightful students, glorious rural setting and a stimulating, healthy, joyful environment.
We look forward to meeting you.
Yours sincerely
Jenny Lawrie
